German automotive major Mercedes-Benz India today rolled out its fourth AMG performance centre here to expand its service offerings in the niche car segment.

The company has lined up another AMG centre launch in Pune, taking the total to five in India. Globally, there are 412 such performance centres for Mercedes to drive the unique customer feel in the sports car and performance brand.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Eberhard Kern, managing director and CEO of Mercedes Benz said the AMG performance centres were the key pillar of the brand’s growth in India. The AMG performance car models, including CLA 45, E 63, SLK 55, GL 63, ML 63 and GLA 45, are priced above Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom in India). Last year, it sold 300 AMG cars in India, and the segment is growing more than 40 per cent annually for it. Mercedes-AMG, posted a record year in 2014 with sale of 47,632 vehicles.

On its plans to produce them locally, Kern said the existing economies of scale did not support such a plan, and added these were being manufactured at its Affalterbach facility in south Germany.

These performance centres are designed to offer an exclusive and customised Mercedes-AMG product experience and a commitment to first-class service quality in customer relationship.

Meanwhile, the company clocked four-wheeler sales of 10,201 units in the last fiscal, and expects sales to grow “double-digit” in this financial year. To keep pace with the growing demand for its cars in India, which according to the company, saw a 49 per cent rise in April this year, it has expanded its Pune plant capacity two-fold to produce more than 20,000 units with a Rs 1,000-crore investment.
